Jaymee Naughton Selected To Walk The Kokoda Track Leadership Challenge

16 year old Jaymee Naughton from Belmont has been selected to lead the kokoda track challenge. Jaymee will represent Western Australia in the program that offers young people between the ages of 16 and 22 the opportunity to walk the Kokoda Track over ten days between 26th September and the 7th October 2011.

Jaymee is an outstanding, passionate young student who currently volunteers for the Good Samaritans and also for her local kayaking club. She is also a part of the Perth Young Christian Students Social Justice Group. Jaymee says “We promote awareness in the community about current issues such as fair trade, bullying, immigrants and racial discrimination”.

Jaymee  says that her main reasons for wanting to go to kokoda is to “experience the journey of the Australian soldiers” She also explains that she loves history and has learnt a lot from her pop who collected and restored military vehicles to transport diggers of the Royal marines that could no longer march in the ANZAC Day parade. Walking the kokoda track would be the ultimate tribute to the soldiers that lost their lives” Jaymee says.

The intention of the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge is to identify young people within the Western Australian community who are potential leaders, and who have an ability to both inspire and educate other young people within their local communities.

Clubs WA will provide flights, accommodation, meals, camping equipment, hiking boots and track permits and wishes Jaymee all the best for the Kokoda Track Leadership  Challenge .
